UAE Team Emirates XRG: Driving Towards a Sustainable Future
Team Hits Carbon Neutrality Milestones for 2022 and 2023
At UAE Team Emirates XRG, sustainability isn’t just a commitment—it’s a journey we embark on every season. With every race, every kilometer traveled, and every innovation adopted, we are determined to reduce our emissions year after year. Our mission is clear: calculate our carbon footprint annually, take decisive action to minimize it, and inspire change within our global community.

2023: A Year of Progress and Reflection
We’re excited to share our 2023 emissions data as we move closer to creating a greener, more sustainable future:
Total Emissions for 2023: 2,040 tons CO₂
Scope 1 and 2 (Direct and Indirect Emissions): 392 tons CO₂ 87%: From team vehicles 13%: From electricity use (e.g., larger warehouse spaces)
Scope 3 (Other Indirect Emissions): 1,649 tons CO₂ 84%: Work-related travel 11%: Purchased goods 4%: Downstream distribution 1%: Minor impacts
Carbon Neutrality Achievements
In 2022, we proudly achieved Carbon Neutrality for Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by offsetting them through five impactful projects spanning four countries.
In 2023, we didn’t just maintain this commitment—we expanded it. By continuing to fund these initiatives, we remain aligned with global Net-Zero goals and are contributing to a better, cleaner planet.
Challenges Ahead: Tackling Scope 3 Emissions
The road to sustainability isn’t without its challenges. Scope 3 emissions—primarily driven by team travel to races and the transport of equipment—remain our most significant hurdle.
To overcome this, we are actively exploring innovative solutions to reduce these emissions, including more efficient logistics, smarter travel planning, and expanding our portfolio of offsetting projects.
Our journey continues with a vision firmly set on 2030, where we aim to create lasting, measurable impact.
Empowering Global Change Through Sustainability Projects
Our sustainability initiatives align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), addressing critical global challenges across environmental, political, and economic spheres. By supporting five transformative projects, we aim to inspire action, raise awareness of Net-Zero targets, and engage our partners and fans in shaping a sustainable future.
Emissions Reporting: A Science-Backed Approach
We adhere to the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol for measuring and categorizing emissions:
Scope 1: Direct Emissions
Emissions from fuel used in team vehicles, heating, and refrigeration systems.
Scope 2: Indirect Emissions from Energy Use
Emissions from electricity, heat, and steam purchased by the team.
Scope 3: Indirect Emissions (Value Chain)
Emissions from supply chain activities, business travel, and transporting equipment to races.
Scope 3 Emissions Breakdown
Key contributors to our Scope 3 emissions include:
Purchased Goods and Services: Emissions from all goods and services procured by the team. Business Travel: Emissions from air, rail, and car travel, along with accommodation stays. Downstream Transportation and Distribution: Emissions from moving team equipment to race locations.
