UAE Team Emirates close-out Australian journey with double top-10
8th for Hirschi in Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race
UAE Team Emirates brought an end to the successful trip to Australia with a double top-10 at the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race in Geelong. Marc Hirschi took 8th with George Bennett just behind in 9th spot.
The foundations were laid for Alessandro Covi to take-on the sprint though the Italian would become disengaged in the closing kilometres leaving Hirschi to sprint for home, with Marius Mayrhofer (Team DSM) proving the fastest.
The race brings the curtain down on a highly-memorable few weeks Down Under for the Emirati team who claimed overall victory with Jay Vine at the Tour Down Under , with the squad also taking home the win in the teams classification.
Marco Marcato (Sports Director) : “We’re leaving Australia with our heads held high.
We tried to make the race hard today but on a course like this it was difficult to split the bunch. We got two in the top-10 which is a solid result. We came here with big ambitions and we can say that we completed them with the victory of Jay Vine in Tour Down Under. We leave on a positive note as we look towards the upcoming European calendar and the races in the Middle-East building up to the UAE Tour.”
