Top 10 for Rui Costa and Daniel Martin
Rui Costa and Daniel Martin placed fifth and eighth in the Tour de Romandie stage three. The mountain time trial stage covered 9.9 kilometres and climbed 785 metres to Villars.
“It was a hard stage and it was important to manage the first part of the climb well,” said Rui Costa. “I felt well and I pushed maybe a little bit too much at the start, overheating in the last three kilometres but in the end I turned out a good result. Finally I have the right feeling that I’ve been searching for and I’m motivated. Tomorrow will be a hard and decisive stage for the overall classification. Dan and I are ready to give our best.”
The time trial was won by team Sky’s Colombian Egan Bernal who covered the course in a time of 25 minutes, 10 seconds, averaging 23.603 kilometres an hour. Primoz Roglic was second at +4’’ and Porte was third +18’’.
Roglic remains at the top of the classification while UAE Team Emirates Rui Costa and Daniel Martin moved up to fifth and eigth overall, gaining respectively 10 and 13 positions.
The organisers have planned the queen stage tomorrow: 149.2 kilometres and climbing 3584 m around Sion.
