Consonni close to the podium in Victor Harbor
UAE Team Emirates' sprinter is 4th in the massive sprint
Simone Consonni received a perfect support from his team mates in approaching the massive sprint of the stage 3 of the Tour Down Under (Glenelg-Victor Harbor, 120,5 km).
The course of the stage had been reduced by the race organizers by 26 km, a decision which had been taken considering the extremely challenging weather conditions (45°).
Viviani won the sprint (photo Bettini), preceding Bauhaus, Ewan and Consonni (4th).
Consonni is 8th in the general classification (+20” from the leader Ewan): the 4th stage, 128,2 km from Norwood to Uraidla, could make a selection in the top positions of the classification.
Consonni: “The heat made the stage very demanding.
Once again, my team mates supported me in a perfect way and Marcato was impressive in leading me in the approach to the sprint.
Unfortunately, I was not quick enough in the final bends and I started my sprint in tenth place, then I was forced to try to recover positions.
I feel that I could have achieve a result on the podium”.
