Pablo Torres ends Tour de l’Avenir with victory and podium
2nd overall for young Spanish talent
Pablo Torres put in a monumental display of climbing today at the Tour de l’Avenir in France, with the 18 year old Spaniard taking victory on the final stage and 2nd overall at the prestigious Under-23 race.
Torres stormed the climb of the Colle delle Finestre to put 3’43” into his closest rival Joseph Blackmore (GB) who just about about hung on to victory ahead of Torres by the slender margin of 12”.
The youngster who competes with UAE Team Emirates Gen Z goes home with two stage wins and best young rider of the race to compliiment his 2nd spot overall.
Torres: “It was a very hard week. Today I felt really good and the team did a super job right from the bottom of the climb setting a fast past before I jumped away on my own. In the end it wasn’t quite good enough to take the overall classification but we’re still really happy. Two stage wins, 2nd in GC and win in the young riders competition feels amazing and I go home with really happy feelings from this week. Obviously it’s a pity I lost the time on yesterday’s stage but that’s the way cycling goes and we’ll come back and try and do better next time.”
