Morgado settles for top-10 after brave attack in Mallorca

6th spot for young Portuguese talent in Tramuntana

Antonio Morgado put in a daring solo ride on day three of the Mallorca Challenge, taking 6th spot having been swept up by a chasing group in the final kilometres of the wet and hilly edition of the Trofeo Serra Tramuntana (151km).

Morgado along with his former teammate Diego Ulissi (XDS Astana Team) went away over the crest of the Coll de Sóller, the final climb of the day. Ulissi would be unable to stick with Morgado on the slippy descent and the 20 year old went away solo.

With 30km to go Morgado had a 25-second gap over the chasing group of eleven riders which included Marc Hirschi (Tudor Pro Cycling) and Ulissi. The group would collaborate well and take back Morgado’s advantage just outside the -10km point.

Florian Storck (Tudor Pro Cycling) went away solo for victory with Morgado settling for 6th on the uphill sprint to the line. The Challenge Mallorca continues tomorrow with the Trofeo Andratx.
