The world champion between Modolo and the victory
Sacha 2nd in the sprint, he was preceded by Sagan
UAE Team Emirates obtained again a second place in the Tour de Suisse (Rui Costa had been second in stage 6): in Schaffausen, Sacha Modolo was preceded in the final sprint only by the world champion Sagan (photo Bettini).
Modolo received a very useful support by the team and Mohoric led him just behind the leading train of Quick-Step Floors. “I noticed that there was space on the right side of the road, so I decided to start my sprint close to the fences, so I could be protected by them – Modolo explained – Sagan was impressive, however my progression too was pretty good and I succeeded in preceding Trentin and Cort Nielsen, the second place is good“.
Sports director Pedrazzini said: “The performance of the team was good, it was difficult to do better today, especially considering that Sagan was perfect.
We did not achieve the stage victory, it was our objective, now we’re focusing our attention on tomorrow time trial with the goal to maintain a place in the top 5 of the general classification“.
The final stage of the Tour de Suisse will be a 28,6 km individual time trial with start and arrival in Schaffausen. Rui Costa is 5th in the GC, at 2’35” to the leader Spilak: Pozzovivo, 4th, can rely on 7″ of advantage on Rui Costa, while Frank, 6th, has a gap of 16″.
