Cold debut in Belgium, Marcato 25th
UAE Team Emirates Italian rider in the main group at the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad
In the first Belgian World Tour appointment, Marco Marcato reached the arrival of the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad (Gent-Meerbeke, 196,2 km woth 13 hills and 8 cobbled sectors) in 25th place, pedaling in the main group which was chasing the solo winner Valgren, who had attacked at -1800 meters.
UAE Team Emirates’ Italian cyclig (in photo, just before the start) managed to exploit his experience and tactical sense in order to join the 50 riders group which reunited in the final sector of the race after having climbed the Kapelmur and the Bosberg.
Unlucky day for Swift: just befor the Kapelmur, the British rider was caught up in a crash and, despite having managed to stay up, he could not close any more the gap from the main group. He was 71st on the arrival.
On Sunday, the same 7 riders from UAE Team Emirates will participate in the Kuurne-Bruxelles-Kuurne (category 2.HC).
