Ferrari is fourth in stage 1
Roberto Ferrari got the fourth place in the opening stage at Tour of Slovenia. Sam Bennett (Bora-Hansgrohe) won the sprint out-sprinted Sonny Colbrelli (Ita) Bahrain-Merida and Luca Mezgec (Slo) Orica-Scott. The stage 1 unrolled with a breakaway of nine riders kept under control from Cavendish’s team (Dimension Data) to bring all the peloton in a massive sprint.
“It was a tricky final sprint” said Roberto Ferrari “where everyone wanted the Cavendish’s wheel. I did a sprint coming from the back and I’ve been quite satisfied about the feeling, considering it was the first race after the Giro d’Italia”.
Also sport director Orlando Maini is quite satisfied “Ferrari did a good sprint showing a good form. The team led him in the first positions during the finale and he got the fourth place. Also tomorrow could be another sprint stage, waiting for the queen fraction on Saturday, where we’ll try to do the race with our GC leader Jan Polanc”.
