Almeida secures 2nd Place podium at Tour de Pologne
Portuguese rider just 1" off overall win
Joao Almeida showcased exceptional strength and determination, clinching a brave 2nd place overall at the prestigious Tour de Pologne. After a week of intense racing, Almeida’s tenacity on the road earned him a well-deserved spot on the podium behind race winner Matej Mahoric (Bahrain-Victorious).
The final stage sprint on day 7 took the riders from Zabrze to Kraków (166.6km) with Tim Merlier (Soudal Quickstep) taking the win.
The result for Almeida tops of a solid week for the Emirati squad.
Not to be overshadowed, Rafal Majka, thrilled the home crowd with an impressive stage win on Polish soil. Majka’s victory on stage 3 served as a shining moment for the team, further highlighting their impressive performance throughout the race.
Moreover, UAE Team Emirates excelled in the teams classification, securing the top position. The cohesive teamwork and relentless effort of the entire squad played a pivotal role in their outstanding success.
Almeida: “Im satisfied with 2nd place and it gives me morale for the Vuelta España. For the bonus seconds I had to try at least. I gave it a go in the sprint for the bonus seconds but it didn’t work, in the end it was fun and I’m still happy. We won the stage with Rafal and the team classification also so we can be very satisfied.”
