Ulissi wins Settimana Ciclista Italiana
Two stages and the general classification for the Tuscan
The Sunday of glory for UAE Team Emirates begins with the success of Diego Ulissi in the first edition of the Settimana Ciclista Italiana.
The Italian rider, at the top of the general classification since the first stage, confirmed his leadership even after the final Cagliari-Cagliari stage, won in a sprint by Pascal Ackermann (Bora-hansgrohe) ahead of Jhonatan Restrepo (Androni-Sidermec).
Ulissi, winner of the 1st and 4th stages, finished with an 8” advantage over Sep Vanmarcke (Israel-Start Up Nation).
Ulissi: “It was a very nice week: the team worked flawlessly and supported me all the way. Today we controlled the race well, even with strong wind, so I was able to race calmly, even managing my puncture at best 15 km from the finish.
I thank the team and all the staff, now we look to the next races”.
