UAE Team Emirates visits Emirates Group headquarters
During the event, Aru revealed: "I'll participate in the Giro d'Italia 2018"
UAE Team Emirates riders, technical staff and management have come to the United Arab Emirates to participate in Abu Dhabi Tour. On Monday morning, February 19, they were welcomed by Emirates Airlines at their general headquarters.
Aru, Bystrom, Ferrari, Kristoff, Mori, Rui Costa and Ulissi paid a visit to the head office of the team’s main sponsor, which is located at the Dubai airport. There they met with top management from the airline company, posing for a series of flattering photographs and signing autographs for everyone.
Adil Al Ghaith, Emirates’ Senior Vice President Commercial Operations for Gulf, Middle East and Iran said: “We believe that through our support of UAE Team Emirates we bring the UAE closer to the world stage of cycling. Emirates aims to create more meaningful connections with cycling fans here in our home market and around the world, and we hope that our national team will inspire continued development of the sport in the UAE. We wish them the best of luck for the upcoming edition of the Abu Dhabi Tour“.
The summit ended in a meet-and-greet with the main media outlets in the United Arab Emirates, during which Fabio Aru officially announced his decision to participate in the 2018 Giro d’Italia.
“I really wanted to mull over this important decision, and I’ve had many constructive conversations with the team,” explained the Italian champion. “The decision to participate in the Giro d’Italia was made with conviction, after careful consideration of many variables.
I’m happy to get back to the roads of the Giro; for an Italian athlete it is always a race that offers a special thrill. Furthermore, this year I will be participating with the Italian National Champion’s jersey, which is one more reason to pay maximum homage to the Corsa Rosa”.
