Molano takes podium in Catalunya
3rd for Colombian in sprint finale
Sebastian Molano came close to his first triumph of the season with a third place on stage 6 of the Volta Catalunya.
The Emirati squad managed the final kilometres perfectly, ensuring Molano got over the final Cat 3 climb which came 14km from the line to dispute the sprint.
The win went to Peter Sagan (Bora-Hansgrohe) who got the better of Daryl Impey (Israel Start Up Nation) and Molano, who rounded out the podium.
Molano : ”I’m pleased with the performance today. The team worked well as a group and got me over the final climb in a perfect position. I had to brake hard and lost position a little in the final kilometre. I got back up to speed and managed to get a result. It feels good to be back disputing sprints in Europe again and I’m hoping a win will come soon.”
Brandon McNulty continues as the highest placed UAE rider in 15th on GC, 2’19’’ behind race leader Adam Yates (Ineos Grenadiers).
Tomorrow the race concludes in Barcelona with a circuit finish of 133km.
