Italian Formolo on his way to UAE Team Emirates
Two year agreement for the twenty-six year old national champion
Davide Formolo will become one of the leading riders at UAE Team Emirates for the 2020 season, with the Italian champion coming on board with the Emirati squad on a two-year contract.
Born in Negrar (Italy) on 25/10/1992, Formolo turned professional in 2014, and has taken three major victories : a stage in the Giro d’Italia in 2015, a stage of the Volta a Catalunya in 2019 and the national champion title in 2019. Formolo also claimed a strong 2nd place in the latest edition of Liege-Bastogne-Liege.
General Manager Joxean Matxin has specified what Formolo’s role will be in the team: “Formolo will form an integral role in the fabric of our team.
Davide has great qualities and great potential. He has already achieved some good results in the Classics and in the general classification of stage races and we are confident that he can reach even greater heights in the years to come.
He will have the full support of the team for his objectives in the Ardennes Classics and beyond. ”
Davide, how does it feel to be joining UAE Team Emirates?
“For me, the move to a team like UAE Team Emirates means a lot. I spent two wonderful years with my current team , but I felt my goals and the plan laid out by UAE Team Emirates fitted together perfectly, so I decided to join this exciting project.”
You’re coming into your peak years now – what are your goals as a rider?
“For the next few years I want to mainly focus on the hilly one-day classics on the UCI World Tour”.
Do you think you can integrate yourself well in a team that includes young talents, experienced riders and current champions?
“Obviously I’m keeping track of the team’s other transfers and they are investing a lot in young riders. This is a clear sign that there is a long-term project to develop, which is a great signal for the future”.
