Fabio Aru tenth on Queen stage of the Tour of Switzerland
The Sardinian climbs well on San Gottardo, moves up to eighth place on GC
A strong performance by Fabio Aru on the Queen stage of the Tour of Switzerland bumps him up to eighth place in the general classification on the eve of tomorrow’s individual time trial.
The Italian climber came home tenth on the final ascent of the day, in a stage won by the leader of the GC Egan Bernal (Ineos) who shook off his rivals on the final slopes to Gotthard. Second place for Domenico Pozzovivo (Bahrain-Merida) who came in just ahead of his teammate Rohan Dennis.
Fabio Aru: “It was another good performance, all the work I am doing here will spur me forward for sure. Now I’m in the top ten in the standings and I can’t help but be happy. Today was a long stage and I responded well even though it wasn’t easy to judge the uphill paved sections. Now two important stages remain, starting with the individual time trial of tomorrow which will be another good test for me“.
