Double top-10 for UAE Team Emirates at Giro d’Italia
Gaviria 8th, Bjerg 9th on stage 8
With the early breakaway claiming the top placings, Fernando Gaviria had to settle for 8th place on stage 8 of the Giro d’Italia from Giovinazzo to Vieste (200km).
The Colombian finished at the head of the pack on the undulating circuit finish which was won by the British rider Alex Dowsett (Israel Start-Up Nation). Mikkel Bjerg was attentive at the front of the peloton to take 9th place – his second top-10 of the Giro after his strong ride to 3rd place in the opening time-trial in Sicily.
Brandon McNulty remains the highest placed UAE rider in the GC with the young American competing in his first Grand Tour currently in 18th place at 2’57’’.
Tomorrow will be a hard mountainous day in the saddle from San Salvo to Roccaraso (208km) where riders will face their final test before the rest day.
