UAE Team Emirates continue Vuelta pursuit
Rui 21st in stage 13, Meintjes still 16th in the GC
UAE Team Emirates continued their pursuit of another stage victory at the Vuelta a España, as Portuguese rider Rui Costa placed (photo) 21st during Stage 13. Teammate Louis Meintjes retained his 16th place in the General Classification (GC) standings.
Matteo Trentin (Quick-Step Floors) was the eventual winner, achieving another stage victory at this year’s Vuelta. Chris Froome (Team Sky) retains the red jersey,
Stage 14 sees the first Hors Category (HC) climb of this year’s Vuelta, accompanied by a category three and category two climb respectively. The 175km course comprises a difficult summit finish – at the top of the Pandera. The region is known for warm, humid temperatures and the riders could be in for a tough day at the saddle with temperatures exceeding 32 degrees celcius.
